What can the Republican Party do to repair all the damage this president has caused?

I'm not a liberal or conservative,but what troubles me is that this president has turned republican against republican and given the democrats the upper hand,the danger in all this is that it might turn into a one party system that eventually turn into dictatorship,especially with persons like Ted Kennedy in power.
