Should i date someone that i only like for their personality?

He's a really nice guy, I just wonder if we would have any physical chemistry. I am attracted to him but there isnt any "erflies in your stomach, can't wait to see you" anticipation for me about being with him yet. We've been talking for a long time as friends but he's always wanted it to be more, so I decided to give it a try and go out on a date with him, that's today. But I really feel like I'm doing it because I don't want to lose him as a friend but I really don't see us as relationship material. I'll see how the date goes tonight, but basically I'm just wanting an opinion on the whole scenario. Should I tell him let's be friends, which will probably brake everything off between us, or see if this turns out to be anything, as in see if I start to feel differently about him? And we also work together so either way I'm going to be seeing him on a regular basis, so I don't want things to be awkward if that's avoidable. And I really care about him so I don't want to hurt his feelings either.
