Do i need to include illustrations when trying to publish a childrens book?

i have the mcript ready to submit to a publisher; however, the book does not have any illustrations. Do i need to include them or find someone to provide illustrations. Is it a big deal? Im eager to get this out. But i do know that a lot of publishing companys like to use their own illustrator. What should I do?
